What’s the difference between Marketing and Advertising?

Many times, business owners use the term marketing and advertising interchangeably. I know I have in the past.

They are, however, NOT the same thing.

Advertising is part of marketing, but only the beginning.

I’m going to define marketing as a system that brings people (ready to buy from you) to you.

Advertising is part of the system and a big part.

Advertising’s job is to make people who might need your product or services aware of you and what you offer.

That’s great, but now what?

They know you exist, how are you going to convince them to reach out to you and eventually to give you money? That is the job of marketing.

I’ll use one of my marketing processes as an example.

When you request my free book at www.gosocialexperts.com/book you’ll get a free pdf copy and then you’ll be offered a printed version.

When you accept the printed version, we’ll have your mailing information along with your email.

This will start an email series encouraging you to watch for the book and to read it when it shows up and it will start a physical mailing series.

You’ll be put on my newsletter list so in addition to email communication you’ll also get physical mail from me.

All of this is designed to convince you that I know what I’m talking about and to show you how Go Social Experts can help you grow your business.

All of this starts with some form of advertising; Facebook ads, outreach at an event, a webinar you attended . . . and it all continues with outreach once you’ve raised your hand to say “I’m interested in your help growing my business”.

People are ready to buy on their schedule not yours, so you must make sure you stay in front of them until they’re ready to buy.

It’s your job to stay in front of them, not their job to remember you.

So, what are you doing to stay in front of your ideal prospects?

P.S. If you’d like to discuss how Go Social Experts can help you design and implement an ideal marketing system for your business, apply to talk at www.gosocialexperts.com/workwithus/. It’s a free call and you’ll discover what you can have in your business as well as the investment needed.
