Set the social media bar high

As long as there have been businesses there has been competition. A lot of people fear competition because it can challenge your success but to me, competition has the potential to make you better.

I’m not saying that you should be obsessed with one-upping your competition but when it comes to social media, it’s still uncharted waters for many businesses so you’re likely on an even playing field with them right now. So here’s your chance to shine.

If no one in your field is currently utilizing social media to it’s fullest then you have got it made. Here is your chance to come out, guns blazing and setting the bar high. Your competition will have to look to you as the example when they finally get around to developing their presence online.

However, it’s not always handed to you so nicely. Many businesses are ahead of the curve and may have a few years of social media ahead of you but don’t be intimidated. I know you don’t want to copy your competition but you can learn from their experiences and in turn make them even better. Don’t be intimidated by their number of likes or followers.

What you need to do is focus on the type of posts that they are getting the most attention on. Notice their tone and personality. Pay attention to comments, positive or negative. Then as you work on creating your businesses online persona maybe go with a different personality. If they come off as very professional maybe develop a fun and community oriented personality and tailor your posts accordingly. Use their profiles as a base and make it better. If they only post once a month and only do promotions than your job probably won’t be that difficult. Always aim to keep the bar high. It may even scare your seasoned social media competitor more if you are more successful than them in less time. Wouldn’t that be something to brag about.
